State Rep. Brad Slagh (R-Zeeland) welcomed USA Army veteran and Ottawa County Sherrif’s Deputy Scott Fairfield to the Michigan House of Representatives’ annual 9-11 Memorial Ceremony in the House chamber that took place Tuesday.

The ceremony included the ringing of a fire bell in memory of every first responder and public safety officer who died honorably in the line of duty throughout Michigan in the past year.

During this annual tradition, legislators invite first responders and members of the military from their communities to be their guests for the service.

“My colleagues and I are grateful for the opportunity to personally thank Deputy Fairfield for his work to protect and serve the people of Ottawa County,” Slagh said. “This year marks the 25th anniversary of the attack on our nation, an important time to remember the solidarity and patriotism that overcame our country in its wake and express our gratitude for those who gave it all then, and over the past year here in Michigan.”
