Rep. Griffin: Van Buren County job providers receive grants to enhance workforce development
RELEASE|January 22, 2021

Rep. Beth Griffin – chair of the new Workforce, Trades and Talent Committee – today noted several Van Buren County job providers will be assisted by Going PRO Talent Fund grants.

The competitive grant secured by Michigan Works! Berrien, Cass, Van Buren helps employers train new and existing employees. It’s a critical part of Michigan’s efforts to help workers obtain the skills they need to get and keep available jobs.

“These grants are an important piece of the broader effort to bridge the widening skills gap and successfully train Michigan residents to fill in-demand jobs,” said Griffin, of Mattawan. “Michigan had a shortage of workers in certain segments of the economy even before COVID-19. The pandemic has made this situation worse. Grant programs like this are critical to the future of our economy, and giving more people in Southwest Michigan the ability to find good jobs and provide for their families.”

Van Buren County recipients for the 2021 fiscal year include Albemarle Corporation in South Haven ($23,696), GLCC Co. in South Haven ($36,586), Coca-Cola North America in Paw Paw ($98,919), Compton Inc. in South Haven ($18,000), Lovejoy Inc. in South Haven ($23,745), Pro Powder Inc. in South Haven ($16,500), Ralph Moyle Inc. in Mattawan ($90,000), Riveer in South Haven ($62,765), Spencer Manufacturing in South Haven ($17,120), White Oaks Assisted Living in Lawton ($34,500), Tri-Mation Industries in Mattawan ($17,545), Bangor Plastics Inc. in Bangor ($7,340), St. Julian Wine Company in Paw Paw ($52,274), Harloff Manufacturing Company in Paw Paw ($37,500), Biggby in Mattawan ($17,760), Meadow Woods Nursing and Rehab Center in Bloomingdale ($10,500) and Blue Berry Hill Assisted Living in Lawton ($29,400).
